Story
A domed church with a tall bell tower stands in dark outline against a sky and water glowing in gold and blue tones, its form mirrored in the rippling surface below as evening settles over the scene. The painting shows San Giorgio Maggiore and was completed in 1908 using oil on canvas. Claude Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926 and worked as a French painter within the Impressionist movement, also created the notable Haystacks series. One detail worth noticing is how the reflection of the campanile breaks apart into shimmering streaks of color across the water, blurring the line between the solid architecture above and its wavering image below.
