Story
Rows of blossoming trees stretch across a spring field, their blooms rendered in soft pink and yellow hues under a pale blue sky, all captured with gentle, impressionistic brushwork. The scene feels alive with the season's light, as the loose strokes suggest movement in the branches and grass. This piece, titled Spring in Giverny, was painted in 1890 by Claude Monet using oil on canvas, and it is held today at the Clark Art Institute. Monet, a French painter who lived from 1840 to 1926, was a central figure in Impressionism and also created the notable work Impression, Sunrise. One detail worth noticing is how the pale blue sky sits quietly behind the layered rows of pink and yellow blossoms, letting the trees take center stage while the brushstrokes keep the whole composition soft and unresolved, true to the loose impressionistic style used throughout.
