Story
A blue and white porcelain tea set rests on a red tray, positioned next to a potted plant that stands on a white tablecloth, all set against a wall of brown wood. The grouping fills the canvas with a calm, domestic order, each piece placed with care beside the next. This oil painting, titled Still Life, Tea Service, was created in 1872 and is held at the Dallas Museum of Art. Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also made the well known work Impression, Sunrise. Looking closely, the contrast between the dark wooden backdrop and the pale cloth draws attention to the delicate patterning on the porcelain itself.
