Story
Clusters of purple irises fill the lower portion of the composition, their petals rendered in loose dabs of violet and blue. Behind them stands an archway draped in wisteria, leading toward a building softened into muted greens and reddish tones. This oil painting was created in 1900 by Claude Monet, a French painter associated with Impressionism, and belongs to the collection of the Musée d'Orsay.
