Story
A grand Gothic portal of Rouen Cathedral rises through a hazy atmosphere, its carved stonework softened into shades of grey, white, and muted brown under a sky heavy with clouds. The facade seems to dissolve into the overcast air, with light diffusing unevenly across its surface. Painted in oil in 1892, the work belongs to Claude Monet, a French artist associated with Impressionism, housed today at the Musée d'Orsay.
