Story
Four slender poplars rise along a riverbank, their trunks and leaves mirrored in rippling water below. Monet renders the whole scene in cool blues and purples, warmed by touches of pink and yellow, so that the trees and their reflections nearly merge into one pattern. This oil painting dates to 1891 and belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Monet, a French painter working within Impressionism, also created Haystacks and Impression, Sunrise.
