Story
A shaded path lined with trees opens onto a stretch of water where geese drift near the shore, with a yellow building visible beyond the greenery. The scene is rendered in soft yellows, greens, and blues that give the whole composition a warm, dappled glow. This oil painting was made in 1874 and is held at the Clark Art Institute. Its creator, Claude Monet (1840–1926), was a French painter associated with Impressionism, the movement also reflected in his notable work Impression, Sunrise. Worth noticing is how the yellow building anchors the far end of the path, drawing the eye through the layered trees and water toward a single warm point of light, while the geese add small bursts of movement to the quiet, reflective surface below.
