Story
A curved footbridge spans a quiet pool, nearly dissolved into surrounding foliage rendered in reds, yellows, greens, and blues, with brushwork that pulls the whole scene toward abstraction. Claude Monet painted this oil work in 1923, applying loose strokes that blur water, bridge, and plants together. The piece reflects Impressionism, the movement associated with this French painter. It entered the Minneapolis Institute of Art as a bequest from Putnam Dana McMillan.
