Story

A Parisian street teems with people below, seen from an elevated vantage point, as countless French flags ripple above the crowd between tall buildings. The scene is rendered in blues, reds, yellows and earth tones, capturing the energy of a packed thoroughfare. Painted in oil in 1878, the work reflects Claude Monet's involvement with Impressionism. It later entered the Musée d'Orsay through a donation made to settle inheritance taxes for the national museums.
