Story

A river scene unfolds in soft blue-grey light, with a dark tree standing at the left edge of the water. Mist seems to soften every surface, blending sky and current into a quiet, pale haze. The painting was made in oil in 1894. It reflects Claude Monet's work within Impressionism, the French movement he helped shape through his attention to shifting light and atmosphere.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
