The Terrace at Sainte-Adresse

Story

A raised terrace by the sea holds figures and bright flowers, with flags lifting in the breeze, while boats and ships rest on blue-green water beneath a cloudy sky. The scene is rendered in Claude Monet's hand, part of his wider interest in coastal light and leisure. Monet (1840–1926) was a French painter linked to Impressionism, also known for Garden at Sainte-Adresse.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
