Story
A quiet pond fills the surface, its water lilies drifting among reflections of trees that dissolve into soft blues, greens, and grays, blurring the line between surface and depth. Painted in 1914 by Claude Monet, the canvas belongs to the Musée de l'Orangerie. Monet, French, lived from 1840 to 1926 and worked within Impressionism, the movement his earlier painting Impression, Sunrise helped define.
