Story

Pale cliffs rise above the water, their rock formations layered in soft beige, grey, and green under a hazy coastal light. The pale water below seems to dissolve into the mist, giving the whole scene a quiet, atmospheric stillness. This oil painting was made in 1897 by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French artist associated with Impressionism. It belongs to The Phillips Collection.
