Story

A hazy morning unfolds over tiered cliffs and valleys near the sea, rendered in muted beige, green, and purple tones softened by atmospheric mist. The composition suggests coastal terrain rather than defined detail, with layers of color evoking distance and light. Painted in oil in 1897, the work reflects Claude Monet's engagement with Impressionism. It has been part of The Phillips Collection since its acquisition in 1959.
