Story
A quiet pond fills the canvas, its blue surface scattered with floating lilies and other aquatic plants. Green stems rise among them, and the blossoms appear in shades of pink, yellow, and white, drifting gently across the water. This oil painting was created in 1916 and is held at the National Museum of Western Art. Claude Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926 and worked as a French painter, was associated with Impressionism. One detail worth noticing is how the pale yellow and white blooms stand out against the deep blue water, drawing the eye across the surface of the pond.
