Waterlilies

Story

A pond stretches across the surface, scattered with floating lily pads and blossoms rendered in greens, purples, and blues. The water fills the composition, leaving little room for sky or shore, so the eye settles into the texture of color and pattern. Painted in oil by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French artist associated with Impressionism, the piece reflects his engagement with natural light and water through loose, visible brushwork.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
