Waterlilies

Story

Pale yellows, soft greens, touches of red, and gentle blues drift across the canvas, blending into one another to suggest water lilies floating amid their own reflections. The surface dissolves into color and light rather than sharp detail, giving the whole scene a loose, abstract quality. This oil painting was created in 1907 by Claude Monet, a French painter associated with Impressionism, and is held at the Musée Marmottan Monet.

Where it works
