Story
A close view of a pond shows floating lilies and drifting plants amid rippling reflections, painted in layered greens, blues, purples, and touches of earthy brown. The surface seems to shift between solid form and shimmering light, with no clear boundary between water and sky. This oil painting dates from 1915 and belongs to the Musée de l'Orangerie. Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter working within Impressionism, also created Haystacks.
