Story
Pale pink and white blossoms drift across a dark surface of blue and purple water, their green pads scattered loosely over the pond. The composition stretches horizontally, with no horizon line to anchor it, so color and reflection fill the whole canvas. Rendered in oil on canvas, the piece carries the title Waterlilies, Evening. It belongs to the Impressionist movement led by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter also known for Impression, Sunrise, held today at the Musée Marmottan Monet.
