Waterloo Bridge

Story

A low bridge stretches across a wide river, its stone arches dissolving into haze while distant smokestacks rise beyond it. The scene is rendered in soft blues, grays, and greens, with loose, visible brushwork suggesting mist and industrial atmosphere rather than sharp detail. This oil painting dates from 1902 and is held by the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Claude Monet, a French painter (1840–1926), worked within Impressionism.

Where it works
