Story
A quiet Dutch waterway stretches beneath a clouded sky, lined with windmills standing over green fields and a wooden bridge crossing the water, all rendered in soft, muted tones. The scene was painted in oil in 1871 by Claude Monet, a French artist associated with Impressionism. The piece entered the Walters Art Museum through Henry Walters, whose acquisition brought it into the collection.
