Story
A woman tilts a green parasol against the light while standing in a field full of wildflowers, with a young child nearby under an open blue sky. The figures are understood to be Camille Doncieux and Jean Monet, set in Argenteuil. The piece was painted by Claude Monet in 1875 using oil, and it is held today at the National Gallery of Art, having come from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. Monet worked within Impressionism, the movement also reflected in his painting Impression, Sunrise. One detail worth noticing is how the grass and sky seem to catch a sense of moving air, giving the whole scene a feeling of breeze and light passing through the figures.
