Story

Ballet dancers pause and stretch in a green room washed with warm yellow and brown tones, their white tutus set against touches of red fabric scattered through the scene. The painting was made in oil in 1879 by Edgar Degas, a French artist associated with Impressionism. It now belongs to the Detroit Institute of Arts, acquired through a City of Detroit purchase.
