Story

A group of dancers in pale tutus move through a rehearsal, gathered inside a studio marked by tall windows and rows of columns. The scene is rendered in soft greens, beiges, and grays, giving the room a hushed, practical light rather than a staged glow. Edgar Degas painted this oil work in 1870, working within the Impressionist movement in France. It now belongs to The Phillips Collection, having come to the museum as a donated gift.
