Story
A pale, cream-toned path bends through fields touched with yellow and green, framed by brown mountains beneath a soft sky. The composition stretches wide and open, with the trail drawing the eye toward the distant rise of land. This piece was made using pastel over monotype in oil colors in 1890. Edgar Degas, a French artist associated with Impressionism, created it among works exploring landscape rather than his more familiar figures.
Where it works
