The Rehearsal

Story

A group of young dancers in pale tutus practice their steps inside a timber-floored studio, watched over by a seated instructor, the whole scene rendered in soft, earthy tones. This oil painting, called The Rehearsal, was made in 1877 by Edgar Degas (1834–1917), a French artist associated with Impressionism, whose varied output also included works like The Ballet Class. It is held in the Burrell Collection.
