Story

Children in light clothing gather at the edge of a beach, moving through shallow surf and loose sand. The scene glows with yellow, white, green, and blue tones, catching sunlight on water and skin alike. The painting, titled Play In the Surf, comes from Edward Henry Potthast (1857–1927), an American artist associated with American Impressionism, whose loose brushwork captures the brightness and motion of a seaside afternoon.
