Story

Two women occupy a table inside a Chinese restaurant, their faces catching warm light against cooler tones of blue, yellow, and red. One wears a cloche hat and an earring, and nearby chairs sit beneath a window where a fire escape can be glimpsed outside. The scene is rendered in oil, painted in 1929 by Edward Hopper (1882–1967), an American artist associated with American realism.

Where it works

A cool-toned interior scene suited to media rooms and dens, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
