Story

A small white cottage sits nestled among dark, heavy trees, with figures gathered in a clearing nearby and a group of geese wandering across the open ground. This oil painting, titled After the Bath, was completed in 1891 and now belongs to the San Antonio Museum of Art, where it entered the collection as a gift from Harmon and Harriet Kelley. The artist, Edward Mitchell Bannister, lived from 1828 to 1901 and worked as a painter within the realm of genre art.
