The wattles

Story

Tall trees rise over a quiet pastoral scene, their canopies shading two figures and horses gathered beneath them. The palette stays soft, built from muted greens, blues, and earthy browns that suggest open country air and gentle light. Elioth Gruner painted this oil work in 1919. Gruner, who lived from 1882 to 1939, was an Australian painter, and the piece now belongs to the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
