Story

Tall trees line a waterway, their trunks and branches rising through a mix of yellows, greens, and earth tones that spread across the whole scene. The water below reflects the surrounding color, grounding the composition in a quiet, wooded stretch. This is an oil on canvas mounted on cardboard, painted in 1913 by Ernest Lawson (1873–1939), a Canadian-American painter associated with the Ashcan School, now held at The Phillips Collection.
