Story

Beneath a canopy of tall trees, vendors and shoppers gather around stalls heavy with red and white blooms, the scene rendered in muted greens, browns, and reds. Painted in oil in 1926, the work captures a bustling flower market with soft, blended color. Ethel Carrick, a British-Australian painter working in the Impressionist tradition, brought her attention to light and crowd to this piece, now held by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, acquired through purchase.
