A misty Parisian street recedes toward a domed church, flanked by old buildings and a single street lamp standing watch over the pavement. The haze softens every edge, giving the view a quiet, aged stillness. This is an albumen print made in 1924, titled Rue de la Montagne Ste. Geneviève. Eugène Atget (1857–1927) was a French photographer who worked as an architectural photographer, recording the city's streets with careful attention.
