Carnations and Account Books

Story

A yellow vase holds red carnations beside stacked account books, an ink bottle, and a brush, all resting on a striped cloth set against a plain brown backdrop. The composition is rendered in oil, completed in 1925. The painter, Félix Vallotton (1865–1925), was associated with Les Nabis and worked within the currents of Impressionism and Art Nouveau, bringing a quiet, structured order to this modest domestic grouping.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to dining rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
