Story
Figures drift and tumble through billowing clouds, surrounded by trees and ornamental shapes rendered in bright yellow, green, pink, and red. The composition has a buoyant, playful quality, with bodies suspended as though caught mid-flight rather than falling. Love Flight of a Pink Candy Heart was painted in 1930 by Florine Stettheimer in oil, and the canvas is held at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The piece came to the museum as a gift from Miss Ettie Stettheimer. Stettheimer was an American artist who also worked as a costume designer. One detail worth noticing is how the pink and red tones cluster near the center, drawing the eye to the heart-shaped motif suggested by the title while the surrounding greens and yellows keep the rest of the scene light and dreamlike.
