Story

A packed room fills the composition, people in brightly patterned garments gathered among chairs, framed pictures, and small table arrangements, all rendered in soft pastel tones mixed with vivid accents. The piece is painted in oil by Florine Stettheimer (1871–1944), an American artist. It later passed into Yale University Art Gallery's collection through a transfer connected to the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, tied to her estate.

Where it works

Pastel artwork suited to living rooms and dining rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
