Story
A woman dressed entirely in black, including a dark hat, sits near a table, set against a backdrop painted in shades of purple and cream, with a framed picture visible on the wall behind her. This composition, titled Portrait of a Lady in Black, was painted in oil in 1921 and is held today by the National Galleries of Scotland. The artist, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (1883–1937), was a Scottish painter associated with Post-impressionism and with the group known as the Scottish Colourists.
