A Stormy Evening

Story

A shoreline stretches beneath a heavy sky, where a meandering stream cuts through pale sand toward the water. Trees stand in dark silhouette along the edge, their shapes stark against clouds that gather in deep tones over a soft yellow horizon. The scene suggests an approaching storm settling over the quiet coast. This oil painting was completed in 1945 by Frank V. Dudley, an American landscape painter who lived from 1868 to 1957.

Where it works

A warm-toned landscape suited to living rooms and dens, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
