Story

A cottage with a red roof sits among trees turned gold, set between a hillside and a blue lake, with a soft sky above. The composition balances the warm foliage against the calm water, giving the setting a tranquil feel. Painted in oil in 1947, the work belongs to the Indiana State Museum. Frank V. Dudley, who lived from 1868 to 1957, worked as an American landscape painter.
