Story
Thick black bands cross and collide against a pale, open ground, forming jagged diagonals and angular slabs that seem to lock together like scaffolding caught mid-motion. The composition reads as raw gesture rather than depiction, each stroke wide and decisive. Franz Kline made this oil painting in 1953, working within abstract expressionism and action painting. The piece entered the Buffalo AKG Art Museum as a gift.
Where it works
Suited to dens and media rooms, and to boardrooms, in a vertical format.
