Story
Sweeping black marks cut across a pale, cream-toned ground, their rough edges and scattered drips giving the surface a raw, forceful energy. The composition stays entirely abstract, built from bold gestures rather than any recognizable form. Rendered in oil on paper, the work is untitled and undated. It comes from Franz Kline (1910–1962), an American painter associated with abstract expressionism and action painting, and entered the Buffalo AKG Art Museum as a gift.
Where it works
Suited to dens and media rooms, and to boardrooms, in a vertical format.
