Story
Angular, broken shapes in blue, red, yellow, and green interlock to suggest horses sheltered within stable structures, the forms dissolved into a faceted rhythm rather than a literal scene. Franz Marc painted this canvas in oil in 1913, working within German Expressionism. The piece entered the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum through the Solomon R. Guggenheim Founding Collection, where it stands as part of his contribution to that movement alongside works like Blue Horse I.
