Story
Rushing water tumbles over rocky ledges, foaming white against dark stone, while a quiet forest stretches into the distance under a soft, pale sky. The composition captures Niagara Falls with a sense of scale and motion, rendered in pencil, oil and paper on canvas, completed in 1856. Frederic Edwin Church, an American painter associated with the Hudson River school, created the work, now held thanks to a gift from Miss Barbara Cheney.
