Story

A rose-toned house with towers rises on a hill, enclosed by thick green woodland beneath a soft, muted sky. The structure commands its elevated setting, its ornate silhouette standing apart from the surrounding trees. This view was painted in 1872 by Frederic Edwin Church, an American artist associated with the Hudson River school. Church worked as a landscape painter, and the piece is held at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and hallways, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
