Story

Riders on horseback clash in motion across a stretch of green turf, their forms set against a sky heavy with rolling clouds, while onlookers gather along the right edge of the field to watch the match unfold. The scene is rendered in oil, completed in 1910. George Wesley Bellows (1882–1925), an American painter associated with American realism and the Ashcan School, captured this energetic sporting moment.
