The Coming Storm

Story

Jagged rocks fill the foreground as waves churn beneath a sky thick with gathering storm clouds, rendered in deep blues, greens, and whites along a rugged coastline. The painting, done in oil, belongs to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, having come from the Mr. and Mrs. William Preston Harrison Collection. George Wesley Bellows (1882–1925), an American painter associated with the Ashcan School and American realism, captured this coastal scene with a sense of raw natural drama.
