Story
A quiet stretch of land unfolds along the edge of a river, where tall trees cluster toward the right side of the composition and glimpses of water appear through the surrounding foliage. The scene is built up in soft greens, browns, and pale tones, giving the impression of light filtering across the grass and leaves. This piece, titled Grassy Riverbank, was painted in 1882 using oil, and it is held today at the Dallas Museum of Art. Its creator, Georges Seurat (1859–1891), was a French painter associated with pointillism, the technique he later developed further in A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. One detail worth noticing is how the vegetation partly screens the river, letting the water surface emerge only in fragments between the layered greenery.
