Story
A wide horizontal view splits into two calm bands, with open blue overhead and a pale beige-white expanse stretching below, as if looking down from a great height onto cloud and land meeting at a quiet horizon. The piece is titled Sky with Flat White Cloud, painted in 1962 by Georgia O'Keeffe in oil, and it is held at the National Gallery of Art. O'Keeffe, born in 1887 and died in 1986, was an American artist. Worth noticing is how the canvas resists any single focal point, letting the two broad fields of color hold the eye in balance, with the pale lower section reading almost like mist or ground seen from above the clouds.
