Story
A single white pansy with a yellow center dominates the canvas, its petals spreading wide while small blue flowers scatter around it against a pale gray backdrop. The composition gives the bloom an outsized presence, as though the eye has been drawn close to its surface. Georgia O'Keeffe painted this oil on canvas in 1927, and it is held today at the Cleveland Museum of Art, where it entered the collection through her bequest. O'Keeffe, born in 1887 and died in 1986, was an American artist. Looking closely, the contrast between the pale petals and the small blue blossoms around them gives the whole arrangement a quiet, almost magnified intensity worth lingering over.
