Story
A still body of water stretches across the scene, its turquoise surface broken by gentle ripples, while faraway peaks rise under a soft, misty sky. The composition leaves little room for shoreline detail, letting the expanse of water and distant mountains dominate the view. This piece, titled On Lake Attersee, was painted in 1900 by Gustav Klimt using oil, and it is held at the Leopold Museum. Klimt, who lived from 1862 to 1918, worked within the Symbolism movement during his career. Looking closely, the water's rippled texture catches subtle shifts of light, giving the lake a quiet sense of motion despite the overall stillness of the scene.
